Jarrod had a quiet spirit, neither seeking nor needing attention.
Jarrod was born in Douglas, Georgia, on September 2, 1997, to proud parents Ernest R. Rodgers Jr. (Ernie) and Michelle Floyd Rodgers. Raised in McRae, he was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He passed away after a brief illness on October 29, 2026, at Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Funeral services will take place Sunday, November 1 2026, at 2 PM at Faith Baptist Church, McRae, with Brother Bill Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in McRae, Georgia. The family will welcome friends Saturday, October 31, from 6 to 8 in the chapel of Lowes Funeral Home, McRae.
An honor graduate of Telfair County High School’s class of 2016, Jarrod lettered as a Trojan, playing football for four years and baseball for two. From eighth grade through 2022, he worked for the Telfair County Recreation Department, rising from the grounds crew to a trusted staff position. His responsibilities included maintaining the grounds, managing facility equipment, and umpiring or officiating various sports.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Middle Georgia State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Jarrod joined the software development department at Robins Financial Credit Union. He recently accepted a software developer position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory Federal Credit Union (ORNL FCU) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, in what would have been a new department for the credit union. He moved to Farragut, Tennessee, the week before his passing but never had the chance to begin his new job. Even surrounded by all of those Tennessee fans, he kept cheering for his Bulldawgs. In his short life, Jarrod interviewed for just two jobs and was hired by both companies.
While in middle school, Jarrod spent countless hours teaching his younger brother the finer points of baseball and football. He also coached a local youth baseball team, eventually taking the boys to practices and games across middle Georgia. Without realizing it, he was teaching them lessons in conduct that would guide them into adulthood.
A lifelong Atlanta Braves and University of Georgia fan, Jarrod cherished treating his entire family to a Braves game, buying their tickets and covering every expense. It was one of his proudest moments as an adult.
Jarrod’s survivors include his parents, Ernie Rodgers and Michelle Floyd Rodgers; his sister, Olivia (Josh Phillips); his soon-to-be-born nephew, Charlie Floyd Phillips; his younger brother, Jonathan (Camryn Stokes); his grandmothers, Susan Wise Rodgers (paternal) and Connie Reaves Floyd (maternal); and his aunt, Shannon Floyd. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Edward (Eddie “B”) Floyd and Ralph Rodgers, and his aunt, Katherine Renee Rodgers.
Deeply devoted to his family, Jarrod cared for his grandparents with love and tenderness. He returned their love with boundless affection.
Jarrod had a quiet spirit, neither seeking nor needing attention. He loved grilling and was excellent at it, and he always answered adults with “Yes, ma’am,” “No, ma’am,” “Yes, sir,” or “No, sir.” He enjoyed a typical childhood as one of the children cared for by Mema Myrt and Papa Tillman in Milan, Georgia. Every morning, Papa Tillman shared breakfast from his own plate with Jarrod while the other children ate cereal, Jarrod was loved by all. As a little boy, Jarrod loved big trucks and often said he wanted to drive a garbage truck. He would have made a fine driver.
Jarrod held firm convictions and had a determined spirit. He enjoyed a good discussion—until he decided he had heard enough. That determination, sometimes known as hardheadedness, was a lifelong trait. With Jarrod, you always knew where he stood.
