William Julian "Bill" Spires

William Julian "Bill" Spires, of Milan, passed away on June 9, 2014 at his residence.

Bill, age 76, was the son of the late Walter Reecie Spires, Jr. and Willie Mae Williams Spires. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Eltice Spires; 2 brothers, Walter Gerald Spires and Mason Spires.

He was a member of the Milan Baptist Church, Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge in Columbus, Phoenix City Moose Lodge, Sons of Confederate Veterans, in Eastman, General Chapter of the Morse Code Telegraph Club and served as the secretary of Milan Historical Railroad Depot Museum Authority. He had worked for the Seaboard CSX Railroad for 45 years and had retired in 2001 as Supervisor Agent in Fitzgerald, GA.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Milan Baptist Church.

The Rev. Dan Jones and the Rev. Wayne Cobb will be officiating.

Survivors include 2 sisters, Javene Sheffield Cravey of Milan and Effie Vaughn of Eastman; 2 sister-in-laws, Dot Spires of Westgreen, GA and Bobbie Spires of McRae; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Memorial donations may be given to the following : Milan Historic Railroad Authority, Georgia Baptist Children Home, 9420 Blackshear Hwy., Baxley, GA. 31532, Moose Heart Children Home, 155 S. International, Moose Heart, Illinois 60539 or to the Masonic Children Home, 1417 Nottingham Drive, Macon, Georgia 31211.
