William Benjamin "Ben" Martin

William Benjamin "Ben" Martin, 88 of Rhine, died on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at his home. He is

preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette, his parents, William Howard and Nellie Janet (Huff)

Martin and sister, Ola Mae Downing.

Ben was born September 11, 1933, in Atlanta, where he attended O'Keefe and Smith High Schools. He

was a 29-year Deacon of Loring Heights Baptist (Atlanta) and later of Rockwell Baptist Church in Milan.

Being a Navy Veteran, he soon began working with the Atlanta Transit System(pre-MARTA), where he

worked for 17 years. There, he learned body, automotive and electrical repair. He was literally a "jack of

all trades". Deciding it was time for a career change, he became a Trooper with the Georgia State Patrol

– a career move he greatly loved. While a Trooper, he obtained a degree in Criminal Justice. Shortly after

retirement he and wife Jeanette, relocated to their home in Rhine, GA.

Ben's hobbies included photography, hunting and anything he could find to tinker with.

Ben is survived by his 3 Sons, Stan (Sue) Martin of Duluth, GA, Lee (Ginny) Martin of Atlanta, GA and

Benjamin (Daphne) Martin of Rhine, GA; 5 Grandchildren, Kiel (Heather) Martin of Duluth, GA, Katie

(Ernesto) Sandoval of Lawrenceville, GA, Rebecca (Alan) Phrommala of Rome, GA, Benjamin D.

(Madison) Martin of Bremen, GA and Shelby Martin of Duluth, GA; also, 1 Great-Grandson, Mateo

Sandoval of Lawrenceville, GA.

The family will receive friends at Lowe's Funeral Home, McRae-Helena, on Friday, June 3, 2022, from 6

P.M. to 8 P.M. A service will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Rockwell Baptist Church.

Internment will follow at the church cemetery. The Rev. Benny Moore will officiate.

Pallbearers will be provided by the Georgia State Patrol Color Guard.
