Sherma Ashcraft

Graveside services for Ms. Sherma Ann Coody Ashcraft, who entered into rest on

December 28, 2017 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, will be conducted on Tuesday

afternoon at 1:00 PM in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, Ga., Rev. Steven

Croft officiating.

Sherma was a native of Telfair County, and made her home in Matthews, Ga.,

for the past six years. She was a life long member of the Helena United

Methodist Church, a Christian, and loved her Lord and Savior, her family, and

all of God's creatures in that order.

She was graduated from

Middle Georgia College, Cochran; and received her Bachelor's of Arts Degree

in Business Administration from Valdosta State College. She worked for

several years in banking, and became office manager and special assistant at

Hopkins and Nichols, CPAs, in McRae, Ga., for about a decade.

She was married to Steven Ashcraft, a hospital administrator, and they lived

in Topeka, Kansas.

She later moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and joined Northrup-Grumman in

management and special services. She recently retired after 29 years service

with the defense contracting company.

She is predeceased by her parents, Wilson Coody and Carolyn Powell Coody of

McRae, Ga., and a brother, Wilson Powell Coody of Warner Robins, Ga. She is

survived by a sister, Joy Newton, of Matthews, Ga.; two nieces, Catreece

Fritts, Kathleen, Ga., and Carol Hammond, Woodstock, Ga.; three great nephews,

Brandon Fritts and Adam Fritts of Kathleen, Ga., and Lucas Hammond, Woodstock,

Ga.; a sister-in-law, Jean Coody, Woodstock, Ga. Sherma also leaves behind

her beloved kitty, JoySugar and Joy's lab, Lucy.

She was gifted to write poetry and draw charcoal prints. She enjoyed crafts

and made afghans for her friends.

In lieu of flowers, Sherma would prefer donations made to the Golden Harvest

Food Bank, 3310, Commerce Dr., Augusta, Ga., 30909; or to the Augusta Humane

Society, PO Box 12035, Augusta, Ga., 30914-2035.

The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
