Obituary

Samuel 'Sam' Foster Caldwell, age 84, soared into the arms of Jesus on Friday, February 16th listening to the river water gently lapping against the rocks and staring into the beautiful night sky.

He was born June 2, 1933 in McRae, Georgia to the late Clady Joe and Velma Hatfield-Caldwell. He was a graduate of Workmore High School, a United States Army veteran, a fisherman, a poet, a singer, a Christian, an encourager, and worked 15 years at Don and Sam's Fruit stand on Hwy 441. 'Elder Sam' was a member of Emmanuel Apostolic Church in Jacksonville as well as The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Cedar Grove. He was the best fisherman God ever created and the Pick up the Penny Game Grand Champion. With the Lord's help, this dear brother beat cancer three times saying, "You can't keep a squirrel on the ground and you can't keep a good man down." Elder Sam truly believed there was nothing wrong with closing your eyes over here and waking up in Heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: C.J. Caldwell, Jr., Billy J. Caldwell, Clarence Caldwell, and one sister: Pauline Faircloth. Left behind to cherish his memory are his brother and sister in law, Donald J. and Joann Caldwell and several nieces and nephews. Although he had no children of his own, he adopted two later in life, Scott and Jada Davidson. With them he gained five grandchildren: Sela, Jada K., Makayla, Thomas, and Haven.
