Rose Mary Thackston Hester

Rose Mary Thackston Hester, loving wife, mother, grandmother and special friend to all that knew her, departed this life on Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at the age of 69, following a lengthy illness.

She was the daughter of the late George and Nettie Williams Thackston.

"Rose" as she was affectionately known by everyone, enjoyed nothing more than spending her time with her family and friends, and especially loved being in her kitchen. She enjoyed freezing and canning fruits and vegetables and shared her bounty with everyone who visited. Her chicken and dumplings were a special treat.

She was a avid gardener and encouraged her visitors to spend time in her backyard, sharing her appreciations of her beautiful flowers and plants.

" Rose" was a member of the First Baptist Church in McRae. Also, she was active in community life, keeping close tabs on her family and all her friends. She had retired as a State Inspector with the State Board of Cosmetology and had been a Beautician for many years.

"Rose" can never be replaced or forgotten and will be remembered with a great deal of love and respect.

She leaves behind her husband, Donnie; her daughter, Dona (Jamie); 3 grandchildren, Mack, Dylan and Cooper.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 11 at the funeral home.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 12 at the McRae 1st Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, McRae.
