Michael D. Pollard

Michael D. Pollard, 44, of Jesup, Ga. died Monday, December 9, 2013 in Wayne Memorial Hospital under the care of Hospice of South Carolina. The Wayne County, Ga. native was a member and former pastor of Helena Baptist Church. The 1987 Wayne County High School Graduate earned a Master's Degree in Special Education and was a Wayne County High School Special Education Teacher. He was also a former athletic director of the Richmond Hill High School, former volunteer and first responder with the Helena/McRae Fire Department. Michael loved being with people and was an avid UGA and Falcons fan.

Survivors are his children, Cassi, Kelly Ann and Bailee Pollard and their mother, Shann Morgan Pollard, all of Nahunta, Ga.; a fiance', Elizabeth JoAnne Brooks and her children, Camryn and Cadyn Brooks, all of Jesup, Ga.; his parents, Darryle and Shirley Pollard of Odum, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Paige and Glenn Aspinwall of Odum, Ga.; uncles and aunts, Troy and Carolyn Pollard of Alamo, Ga., Winnfred and Betty Pollard of Helena, Ga., Curtis Jones of Milan, Ga.; several cousins.

Funeral services will be 4 P.M. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Helena Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Wooten, Rev. Kary Poole and Rev. Ben Waller officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church. Interment will follow in the Helena City Cemetery with the Helena/McRae Fire Department assisting. Active pallbearers will be the Helena/McRae Fire Department, Mike Young, Larry Young, Johnny Higginbotham, Sammy Boney, Tommy Joines, Gerald Young, Lee Cook and Lyman Guy. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Wilson, Darren "Bo Big" Deal, David Lastinger, Lamar Long, Ken Boyette, Tracy Todd, Lee Wilson, David Jackson, Wayne Broadhead, Neil Dubberly, Mathis Bowen, Franklin Spiers, Gary Anderson and Jerry McDaniel.
