Melvin Jessie Meeks, 68, of Helena, died on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his residence.

He was married to Joyce M. Meeks; he was a member of Helena Baptist Church, retired from the Telfair State Prison as a Maintenance Supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Dykes Meeks; a brother, Dennis Meeks and his parents, Jessie and Geraldine Chapman Meeks.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, January 1, 2018 in the chapel of Lowe's Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

The Rev. Alvin Lewis and Dr. Donnie Sutton will officiate.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Meeks of Helena; 2 sons, Dwayne (Shelby) Meeks and Ray (Kelli) Meeks both of Helena; grandchildren, Hunter, Rhett, Dalton and Paige; 1 great-grandson, Mikah; 2 step-sons, Johnny (Tressy) Carpenter of Mt. Tillery, N.C. and Tommy (Shanna) Sheffield of Eastman; 1 sister, Lavada (Henry) Johnson of Sandersville; step grandchildren, Anna Carpenter, T.J. Sheffield, Hope Sheffield, Bree Sheffield and Nick Sheffield.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Sunday, December 31, 2017 at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Helena Baptist Church for Lottie Moon Christmas offering or Pure Water Pure Love.
