Loweise Vernell Tanner, aged 87, passed away peacefully at her home on July 1, 2024, in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was born on Tuesday, March 23, 1937 in Alamo, Georgia.
Loweise was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lonnie E. Tanner, Jr. whom she married in 1956. The newlyweds came to Fernandina Beach, Florida on their honeymoon and fell in love with the island. In 1964, they bought a home on Amelia Island where they raised their family. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Tanner; and son, Lonnie E. Tanner, III and her parents, Lowell Hartley and Lillian Tucker Hartley.
Loweise had a profound love for the outdoors. She loved living the "beach life" and whether she was fishing, seining, and riding dune buggies, she was always seeking the beautiful sunshine. An avid gardener, her green thumb was evident in the vibrant display of assorted blooms that adorned her yard, a testament to her passion for plants and flowers.
She is survived by her loving children, Robert Tanner (Betty), Debbie Davis, and Sandra Kiernan (Jimmy); grandchildren, Summer Grogan (Jason), Crystal Campbell (Jeremy), Matthew Davis (Sarah), Kyle Davis, and Justin Green; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Hartley (Brenda); sisters, Barbara Taylor and Lavonia Horne; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was beloved by a multitude of family and friends and will be missed dearly. Her life was blessed with some wonderful neighbors who became her guardian angels when needed.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Lowes Funeral Home Chapel in McRae- Helena, Georgia, on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. Pastor Tom Horn will officiate. Loweise will be laid to rest at Alamo City Cemetery.
