Lemmie Bradley Horne
On Saturday, May 11,2019, Lemmie Bradley Horne, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 86.
Lemmie was born March 22,1933 in Alamo, Georgia to Troy and Molly Horne. He was a graduate of Wheeler County High School in May of 1951. He spent several years in the United States Air Force where he worked as an airplane technician. After leaving the Air Force, Lemmie began a career of high steel construction and continued working in the field until his retirement. He is credited with working on the launch pads at the Kennedy Space Center, large commercial buildings, power plants, bridges, and was a foreman over numerous sites from Florida and Georgia to Oklahoma.
On March 1, 1952, Lemmie married Lavonia Dell Hartley and they raised three daughters, Lillian Darlene, Jeannie and Laura. Lemmie is preceded in death by his father, Troy Sr., his mother, Molly, his brother Troy Jr., his sister Ruby Towns, and his daughter, Jeannie Haferkamp. He is survived by his wife, Lavonia Dell Hartley Horne, his daughters Lillian Darlene Haferkemp and Laura Barger, brothers Bobby, Bernard, Ralph, and Randal, and sisters Joan Brown, Wauweeze Dennis, Mary Sue Guinn, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Lemmie was a quiet man and had a love for the outdoors and for his family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and time spent on his property in Wheeler County. He was at home at the Community Church of God where he had attended since childhood. He had a kind spirit and a caring heart.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 14, at Lowes Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM, 170 8th Street, Helena, Georgia. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 15th at 2:00PM, at Community Church of God, 103 Community Church Road, McRae-Helena, Georgia.
