Johnny Earl Underwood, age 71, of Helena, died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Dodge County Hospital in Eastman.

Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Underwood; his mother, Laura Underwood Bellflower; step father, Kenny Bellflower; grandparents, Willie and Viola Horton.

He was of holiness faith. He was born in Savannah, but grew up in Soperton. Johnny served three years in the United States Army, spent several years in the Savannah and Vidalia area before settling in Helena; he worked with the Department of Transportation for many years. Johnny was a five time medalist in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in 2015 and 2016.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 18th in the Chapel of Lowe's Funeral Home. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services in the chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM at the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Wrightsville.

Rev. W.R. Connell will officiate.

Survivors include 5 sisters, Florence Lawson of Ellabell, Faye Memory of Kibbee, Sadie Waldon of Santee, South Carolina, Dorothy Young of Helena; Sue (Benny) Hammock of Rockledge; his aunt, Ola Wood of Macon; several cousins and a host of nieces and nephews.
