Joe Louis Burkhalter

Graveside Services for Joe Louis Burkhalter of Ivey were held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at Oak Grove Cemetery in McRae. Visitation was held from Noon until 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lowe's Funeral Home in Helena.

The Rev. Brad Puckett officiated.

Burkhalter, 77, died Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Coliseum Medical Center in Macon. He was the son of the late John and Laura Moore Burkhalter of Telfair County and was married to Sue Beasley Burkhalter of Ivey. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Gore.

He had retired from Rayonier in Jesup, was a Veteran of the Korean War, a former Commander of the VFW Post 4583 in Jesup, and was a life time member of VFW.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Jerome (Carol) Burkhalter of Reidsville, Johnny Burkhalter of Ivey, Joan (Doug) Selby of Ivey, Joe (Phyllis) Burkhalter of North Augusta, S.C.; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Sholf of Lexington, N.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Lowe's Funeral Home of Helena was in charge of the arrangements.
