Martha Jean Smith Barnes, 86, of McRae passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014. Visitation will be 10-11 AM on Monday, March 10, at Lowe's Funeral Home in Helena, GA. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 AM at Telfair Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Barnes was born on 10/13/27 in Jacksonville, Fl and moved to Atlanta at an early age. She was the daughter of Archie P. and Emma Turner Smith. Jean was a graduate of the University of Georgia. She worked in the accounting department at Roydon Wear in McRae for many years. She was a long time member of the Scotland United Methodist Church and recently joined the McRae United Methodist Church. She was active at the local and district level of the United Methodist Women for many years.

Survivors include her husband. H. B. Barnes, Jr., children Cookie (Ted) Palmer, Patty (Stan) Rutherford, and Reid (Kitsy) Barnes, 8 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Steve Barnes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Methodist Children's Home in Macon or Magnolia Manor in Americus.
