James Albert Joy III,62, of Chapin, South Carolina, died Thursday, April 20, 2017. Born in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late James Albert Joy and Dawn Decker Joy.

Graveside services will be at 4:00 pm Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Oak Grove Cemetery in McRae.

The Rev. Todd Crosby will officiate.

Mr. Joy was employed with SCDHEC for 35 years and retired as Assistant Deputy Commissioner. He was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church and served as a Scout Master with Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include is wife of 39 years, Debra Lois Joy; three children, Heather (Jesse) Quilal-lan, Summer (Mark) Speight and James A. Joy IV; three grandchildren, Evelyn Quilal-lan and Caleb and Peyton Speight; a brother, Richard Joy; a sister, Robin Foster; and several nieces and nephews.
