Horace Lonnie Best, 84, of Eastman, passed away on December 4, 2024, at Fairview Park Hospital. Born on August 4, 1940, in McRae, Georgia, to the late John Wade Best and Madie McLeod Best, Horace's life was marked by dedication, hard work, and the love he had for his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sonja Gore Best, and his brother, Alton Best.

Horace's career was as diverse as it was long-standing, beginning with a notable 27-year tenure at Amercord, where he excelled as a bar mag operator. Not one to sit idle, he went back to work as a correctional officer with CCA, worked in the construction industry and also worked with Dodge County Sanitation.

Family was the cornerstone of Horace's life. He is survived by his loving son - Stephen Best (Susan) of Eastman; Grandchildren - Brett Best (Trista) of Eastman, and Brooke Best (Emma) of Atlanta; Great-granddaughter - Emma Grace Best of Eastman; Brother - Malette Best (Gwen) of McRae; Sisters - Esther Brown and Gail Tanner (Billy Ray) of McRae; Several nieces and nephews.

His life was one of active involvement and contribution. His work history and association involvement were testament to his belief in hard work and his commitment to contributing to the well-being of his community. He was a man who believed in the value of a day's work and the importance of supporting those around him.

As we bid farewell to Horace Lonnie Best, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, laughter, and the respect of all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories shared by those who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Rev. Brett Best will officiate, assisted by Rev. Roy Williams and Rev. Daniel Cook. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Chapel. Interment will follow at Sandhill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to honor Horace's memory be made to Hillside Baptist Church, 1100 Chester Hwy, Eastman, GA 31023.
