Funeral services for Gladys Cumi Pitts Powell of Milan will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 in the chapel of Lowe's Funeral Home in Helena. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.

The Rev. Alvin Lewis will officiate.

Mrs. Powell, age 98, passed away May 19, 2013 at her residence in Milan.

She was the daughter of the late Mannie and Sarah Alice Yawn Pitts of Telfair County and was the widow of Chester Orlando Powell of Telfair County. She was preceded in death by a son, Garreth Kenston Powell; 2 sisters, Monette Hysler, Sara Runelle Bowen; 1 brother, John Pitts.

She was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Hester Powell of McRae and Sara Ellen (Ted) Morrison of Milan; 2 grandchildren, Sue Ann (Charles) Knowles of Milan, Garreth Kenston (Amanda) Powell Jr. of Fleming Island, Fla; 6 great-grandchildren, Ramsey Knowles and Cena Knowles of Atlanta, Mary Beth Powell, Griffin Powell, William Powell, Jack Powell all of Fleming Island, Fla; 2 great-great-grandchildren, Marley Knowles and Lila Knowles of Atlanta; brothers and sisters, Glenn Pitts, Rema Pitts, Isabel Pitts Brooks of Jacksonville, Fla and Louise (Barney) Cone of Fargo; several nieces and nephews.
