Dorothy Mae (Dot) Smith

Dot Smith, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Mrs. Smith was born in Telfair County, GA on December 23, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Walter Thomas Smith and Lucy Scarborough Smith. She resided in Riverdale, GA for over 50 years and was a member of the Riverdale First Baptist Church. Dot resided in Alderson, WV for the past 10 years. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis Smith; grandson, Russell Smith; brothers Eugene Smith of Eastman, Oscar Smith of Helena, Preston Smith of Dublin, and Rollo Smith of McRae; and sisters Rubye Braswell of Alamo and Mary Alice Tart of Arkansas City, Kansas.

Dot is survived by her children Nelson (Carla) Smith of Palmetto, FL, Denny (Judy) Smith of Lilburn, GA, Denise (Wendell) Lyle of Eatonton, GA, Sandra (Ray) Ellard of Alderson, WV, honorary daughter Beverly Barwick of Jonesboro, GA; brother Theo Smith of Pensacola, FL; eight grandchildren, Eustacia (Emmaia Gelman) Smith; Lauren Hodge; Michelle Grace; Correll McAlister; Tori Herbermann; Denise (Chip) Floyd; Bethany (Thor) Ellard-Richmond and Katherine Ellard; two honorary grandchildren Julie Marchbanks and Jason (Jennifer) Barwick; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Lowe's Funeral Home, 170 Eighth Street, in Helena, Georgia 31037. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 6, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. The funeral service and interment will be on Monday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Jeff Lowe of First Baptist Church, Riverdale, GA will officiate the funeral service and interment.
