Celestine Spires Smith

Celestine Spires Smith, 88, died Sunday, December 22, 2019, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services are at 11:00am Tuesday, December 24, at Lowe's Funeral Home Chapel in Helena, Georgia, with burial at Midway Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 10am to 11am immediately preceding the funeral.

The Rev. Alvin Lewis will officiate.

A native and lifelong resident of Telfair County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Joel Ross and Exie Smith Spires and the wife of the late Grover Cleven Smith. She worked at Roydon Wear in McRae for 40 years. After retirement, Celestine and her husband, Grover, cared for young children in her home. Members of New Hope Baptist Church continued to be a comfort to her until her death. A special thanks to the staff of Meadows Park Health and Rehabilitation.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Tim Smith (Shelly) of Vidalia; granddaughte,r Tiffany Michele Smith Lee (Stephen) of Atlanta; sisters, Christine Seay (Emory) of McRae and Vivian Cooper of Macon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
