Obituary

Betty Lorraine Pittman Allen

November 13, 1940 – July 11, 2026

"To know Betty was to know a life marked by faith, encouragement, and love for others."

Born on November 13, 1940, Betty was the daughter of the late Herman and Nealie Pittman. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hilton Allen, and her cherished sister, Lucille Parham, whose companionship and devoted care were a tremendous blessing during Betty's later years. After Lucille's passing following her own courageous battle with cancer, Betty often spoke of how deeply she missed her.

Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home on Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Sam Quick officiating, assisted by Reverend Mike DeLoach. Interment will follow at Telfair Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service in the Chapel from 10:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M.

Betty is survived by her children, Gregory Allen, April Hinson (Russell), and Allison Stapleton (Bryan). She was a proud grandmother to Trey Kight (Madison) and treasured her great-grandchildren, Grayson and Avery Kight, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law, Linda Smith; her beloved nieces and nephews, Jeff (Kristy) McLean, Brad (Amanda) McLean, Jennifer Lemieux, Chad Smith, and Jeneau Meadows (Thomas); along with several great-nieces and great-nephews who held a special place in her heart.

A lifelong educator, Betty began her teaching career as a high school typing teacher in Dodge County before following her calling to teach elementary school. She devoted most of her career to teaching young children and retired from the Telfair County School System. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, as countless students remember the kindness, patience, and encouragement she showed each day.

Her greatest passion was serving the Lord and investing in the lives of others. For many years she faithfully served at First Baptist Church of McRae as a Sunday School teacher, participated in WMU and ESL ministries, served as secretary of the Telfair Christian Learning Center, and faithfully supported and encouraged the deacon ministry. Betty was perhaps best known for her ministry of encouragement. Through handwritten cards, thoughtful notes, text messages, phone calls, and faithful prayers, she had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, loved, and remembered. Countless lives were touched by her quiet acts of kindness and steadfast faith.

While living with her sister in Fort Valley, Betty faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Fort Valley. Pastor Dennis Rivera and his wife, Rossy, remained faithful sources of love, encouragement, and prayer even after Betty returned to McRae. She also cherished the many friendships she formed during her time in Fort Valley, and those dear friends continued to bless her with visits, cards, phone calls, and prayers throughout her illness. Their faithfulness was a tremendous encouragement to Betty and a great comfort to her family.

Betty faced both breast cancer and, later, angiosarcoma with grace, courage, and unwavering faith. During the final months of her life, she was lovingly cared for at Southern Charm Assisted Living in McRae. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to Jane Knowles, the dedicated staff, and the residents of Southern Charm for the compassion, friendship, and loving care they showed Betty. They enriched her final months and became an extension of her family.

While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that Betty's faith has become sight. She leaves behind a legacy of Christian service, faithful prayer, quiet generosity, and unwavering encouragement.
