During World War II, she and her sister Martha, and several others from the area went to Brunswick to work at the shipyard. That adventure opened the door for Ann and Martha to move to Macon, where her sister Mary eventually joined them. "The Girls" as they were known to friends and family lived there over 50 years.

Ann had an avid love of gardening. Her backyard was a lovely hidden garden filled with varieties of plants and bulbs. Pansies and African violets also held a special place in her heart.
The holidays were a special time and she shared her treats with numerous family and friends. Her specialty was divinity and she loved sharing her secret techniques.
